November 4-10, 2024

With JV State complete, our official competition season has come to a close!

I want to congratulate everyone on a great season. I have seen a great deal of improvement, we’ve had some historic successes as a program, and I have learned a great deal.

One of the things I’ve learned is that I need to be better about using our team website for news updates, rather than sending out a deluge of GroupMe messages. I knew it was a lot, but I just never seemed to have enough time to put together some other system. That will be something I work on this offseason.

I. This Week’s Training Schedule

All runs after Monday are for NXR runners and any other runner that wants to continue training with the team. Workout and precise training details can be found in this week’s PDF.

II. News & Announcements

State XC Championship

Northridge boys took 4th in 5A and the girls took 7th in 5A (only a couple of places away from 5th!). These are the highest ever finishes for the Northridge XC team, and reflect all the hard work and dedication of our athletes over a number of years.

Notable performances included Evelyn Cook (8th place overall), Nate Eskelson (13th place overall), and Jeffrey Hazard (16th place overall).

Our varsity athletes were well-supported by their teammates and families, which was gratifying to see and helped them in their races. Additionally, all our runners gave full effort, which is what I am most proud of. The effort resulted in both teams performing very well, and we can all very proud of our every one of our athletes!

JV State Championship

We saw a number of standout performances by Northridge athletes at JV State as well. These included:

  • Anna Elstad, who set a season’s pace PR by 37 seconds per mile!
  • Samuel Elstad, who set a season’s pace PR by 36 seconds per mile!
  • Michael Griffith, who set a 5K PR with an average pace of 6:18 per mile, improving by 12 seconds per mile over his prior PR and season’s best!
  • Addison Waite, who improved his 5K pace to 5:34 per mile, and took 19th place overall!
  • Parker Ewell, who improved his 5K pace to 5:50 per mile
  • Zachary Carnett with a pace PR in the 5K as well, lowering his average pace to 6:04 per mile!

We had some runners who have been injured and didn’t race at the level they wanted to, which is, unfortunately part of the sport. But they gave full effort and that is what will ensure great performances in future races. Plus, I think everyone had fun together!

Turn in Your Jerseys!

If you haven’t turned in your jersey yet, PLEASE bring it to the Knight Mile on Monday to avoid a fine! You will not need your jersey even if you’re running NXR (we are having new jerseys made for our club team!).

End of Season Banquet

Save the date! Team banquet is on November 13, 2024, at 7:00 PM, in the cafeteria area of Northridge High School. The team will provide pizza and bottled water, together with plates, napkins, and utensils. Families attending are asked to bring a side or dessert to share. We will recognize each runner, hand out team awards, and provide special recognition to our MANY seniors.

Parent and Athlete End of Season Surveys

If you haven’t completed our end of season survey, please do so. I am already trying to incorporate some of the feedback received!
