Meet Information: Wahsatch Rendezvous (Saturday, August 23, 2025)

Parents and athletes, we have our third meet of the year coming up this Saturday, August 23, 2025 — the Wahsatch Rendezvou at Fremont High School. Here is the information you’ll need.

Date and Time: Saturday, August 23, 2025, 7:30 AM

Pre-Meet Pasta Dinner: Friday, August 22, 2025 @ 6:00 PM. The dinner will be provided by the Cook and Terrando families at Eva Cowan’s home, which is at 1631 E 6850 S, Uintah, UT (not far from the South Weber trail trailhead). If athletes could bring a chair or blanket to sit on that would be helpful. Thank you!

Location: Big Cottonwood Regional Park in Millcreek.

Transportation: The team will be taking a bus to this meet. The bus will be at Northridge High School (outside D Building) by 5:00 AM on Saturday morning. Runners should arrive at 5:00 AM to board the bus. I know this is ridiculously early, but it will take around 40-45 minutes to arrive at the meet location.  The bus will leave at 5:15 AM. If you miss the bus, you will need to find your own ride to the meet!! Be on time! Middle school athletes running in the open race are welcome to ride the bus to and from, or they can arrive on their own, since their race does not start until 10:20.

Unique Meet Format: The Wahsatch Rendezvous is a unique format race. The JV and Youth/Open races will be run as usual. The varsity races will not be run as a single all-girls or all-boys race. Instead, each team’s individual varsity runners will race against the corresponding varsity runners from the other teams. So, all the #7 varsity runners will race each other, all the #6 varsity runners will race each other, and so on, down to the #1 varsity runners.

According to the entry information on SportTrax, there will be between 8-10 runners in each varsity race. Each runner is score based on their finish place, with the lowest score winning. A perfect score (i.e., seven #1 finishes from the same team) would be 7 points. I think the kids are excited for this format of race…it will be different, for sure!

Course MapHere is a PDF of the course map. It is little difficult to follow, but the white line represents the first mile, the black line represents the second mile, and the red line represents the third mile. The start and finish are labeled. All races will follow a 3 mile course, with the exception of youth runners, who will be directed to a 2 mile course…I’m not exactly sure where that will go, but will ask the meet director. With the staggered start times, it could get a little chaotic following all the races, as there will be difference packs of runners out on the course, but I think the format will make it fun in any event.

Results: This meet will be hosted on SportTrax. Entry information and results can be found there.  This is the SportTrax link. If you haven’t downloaded the SportTrax App, I encourage you to do so. It will make finding results much easier.

Additional Information

I am not certain whether there will be awards. Athletes should cheer each other on and stay until the meet is finished.

As we learned from last weeks meets, it gets hot, even early in the morning! Athletes need to bring their water bottles. They should also hydrate well the day before the race so that they do not risk starting in a somewhat dehydrated state. The morning of, they should eat a light breakfast so that they have appropriate energy.

The team will provide a water jug with ice water, gatorade powder, and some snacks, but athletes should not rely on those for their only source of fluids and fuel.

In my experience, athletes perform best if they focus on hydrating the day before the race and prior to arriving at the meet. While at the meet, athletes sometimes continue to drink in order to keep cool. There are other ways to cool down, which I will discuss with our runners. Please don’t misunderstand me — I want them appropriately hydrated, but that is mostly done in the days leading up to the race, and then on race day in smaller quantities. If they are over-drinking to cool off, it could affect their race performance.

TL;DR — Hydrate in the days before the race and the early morning of. Keep cool before you start.
