NRXC Parents:
Thank you so much for all the support this past week! The Cowans and Simons put on a well-attended and very much enjoyed pasta dinner on Friday — thank you!! — and we had some really great performances at the Border Wars Meet on Saturday. Thanks for everyone who came out and supported our team!
I thought you all might enjoy some videos of what we’ve been up to the first month of the season (please ensure you scroll down past the videos to see the information about the practice schedule for this week!).
This Week’s Schedule
This will be a busy week for us. We have TWO meets this week. The Davis District meet will be at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, and will be held at Layton Commons Park. I can’t remember whether I announced this or not…I know I’ve spoken to some of your about it. In any event, I apologize for late notice and for it only being tentatively on our schedule. It did not show up on any of the calendars until a couple weeks ago. Based on past years, I had assumed it would be in between Bob Firman and the Region Championship, but it is earlier.
Then, on Saturday, September 21, 2024, we will have the Royal Run Invitational at Roy High School. This meet is on the schedule. It will start at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning.
PLEASE NOTE: Both the Davis District and Royal Run Invitation will be JV-only meets. This is principally because, for training purposes I have generally scheduled meets two weeks apart so that we can continue to get in some weeks of good training in between. However, I do want our JV runners to get experience racing, and their racing opportunities will be limited after the Region Championship meet in early October.
So, this week we will have a fragmented schedule. As you can see from the training I posted on the GroupMw and on Slack, JV runners will run a workout on Monday, and then race on Wednesday and Saturday. Varsity runners will run workouts on Tuesday and Thursday, per our normal schedule, and then will have a mandatory team long run on Saturday.
Because I know this is confusing, here is the schedule summarized as best I can:
MONDAY (September 16, 2024): Everyone meet at NHS at the normal time. JV Freshman should come to this practice if at all possible, since they will be running a workout.
TUESDAY (September 17, 2024): Everyone meet at NHS at the normal time. Freshman on the varsity team should come to this practice. Please note that there is no pasta dinner in advance of the Davis District meet.
WEDNESDAY (September 18, 2024): Everyone other than the varsity runners will be excused (or, in the case of freshman, will need to be checked out of school) by 1:45 PM, and should be at Layton Commons Park no later than 2:15 PM. REMINDER that there are no busses to meets at Layton Commons Park — athletes are responsible for their own transportation to those meets. Varsity runners should also go to Layton Commons Park after school is out. They should do an easy run in the neighborhood around the park, and then remain to cheer on their teammates at the meet. After the meet, everyone may go directly home.
THURSDAY (September 19, 2024): Everyone meet at NHS at the normal time. Varsity runners will run a workout, JV runners will do a short recovery run.
FRIDAY (September 20, 2024): Everyone meet at NHS at the normal time.
SATURDAY (September 21, 2024): JV runners should meet at Northridge High School at 6:30 AM to catch the bus to the Royal Run Invitational. The bus will leave at 6:45 AM. Varsity runners should meet at 7:00 AM in Peterson (between Mountain Green and Morgan) for a varsity long run (progression run). If possible, Coach Hutchinson and I will divide duties between this long run and the Royal Run Invitational. If not possible, the team captains will direct the varsity long run.
SUNDAY (September 22, 2024): Rest day.
