Since 2019 (other than 2020 during COVID), NRXC has held a summer cross-country camp. These are usually at a group camp within a couple of hours of Northridge. This year's camp will be held at Hull Valley Camp near Preston, Idaho.
Camp will be during the week of August 5-10, 2024. Exact days are still being finalized, but current plans are to head up Wednesday, August 7, 2024, around 10:00 AM, and return Saturday, August 8, 2024 between 2:00 and 4:00 PM. We will let you know once we finalize the dates.
In order to attend camp, athletes will have to have run and properly reported at least 180 miles during the summer prior to the start of camp. This requirement is not imposed to limit attendees, but to ensure that those who do attend are sufficiently trained to handle the running we'll do while there.
The cost of camp is NOT included in the team fee, and we estimate will be around $120 per person. We will keep it lower if we are able. Athletes will need to be transported to and from camp. Usually, we can do this through parent volunteers who are coming up and staying for all or a part of the week. I wish our team had the budget to charter a bus, or rent vans, but we just don't.
Food is included in the cost of the camp, and thanks to the Jeffreys, the kids (and coaches and parent volunteers) eat like kings during the week! All activities while at camp will be included in the cost as well.
Currently, we are planning a number of runs, and activities that include games, team building exercises, goal setting, mental training, a trail run to and from Bloomington Lake, and tubing the Oneida Narrows of the Bear River. It should be a blast!
There will be showers and a lodge for eating and group activities, but the athletes will need to bring tents to sleep in, or arrange to share a tent with other teammates of their same gender. Boys and girls will be separated and chaperoned by coaches and parent volunteers.
We cannot make this happen without a great deal of parent support! All who are able to come for all or a part of the week are welcome to come. We will definitely need drivers to get the athletes to and from the camp.
We'll discuss camp at length during the summer, including specific volunteer needs, and more detailed information will be sent out to everyone before camp begins. I am committed to maintaining this tradition for our team, even though it is costly and a heavy volunteer lift. Please consider allowing your child to attend, and talk to me if cost is going to be an issue.
I genuinely appreciate you support in this!
